Embracing the Exceptional in Me or The One I Love
Have you or someone you love been labelled with ADHD, Asperger’s or as being “on the spectrum”? While these labels describe differences in processing that is not “neurotypical”, they limit our recognition and appreciation for the amazing abilities (aka super powers) that come with these diagnoses. We here at the Design Your Life Centre embrace the beauty of living in a neurodiverse world where every person has a place and a way to contribute. We invite you and your loved ones to do the same.
That said, we appreciate that this journey is often stressful and isolating both for those who are exceptional and for those who love and care for them. This stress can manifest as problems with anxiety, anger, depression and grief. Moreover, the time and attention that is required of caregivers often makes self-care an afterthought and can lead to burn out and its many consequences.
For those struggling to cope with being exceptional in a world that feels like it was not made for them we provide treatment for you to recognise your uniqueness as your strengths and equip you with strategies to navigate in the world. Understanding one’s own differences and fully accepting it requires patience, courage and resilience, which can be difficult at the best of times. This is precisely why we are here to support you on your journey, with skills and tools adapted for your unique needs so you can thrive.
We also provide services for those who care for exceptional people and what can sometimes be a new role as a caregiver. We understand that accepting the new diagnosis of your loved one can simultaneously be a relief and a source of grief. The process of becoming a caregiver can also often leave little room for taking care of one’s self. If this sounds like you, know that we are here to help so that you can figure out how you can get the support you need to take care of yourself which will ultimately allow you to care even better for the person in your life with exceptional needs.
Ready to get started? We can’t wait to meet you.
